🔥 ask same questions but different way, repeat questions to be sure
🔥 ask more people with different background about the same thing
🔥 do not assume - this is hard, we naturally want things to match our truth... I could go on and on...The biggest lesson when doing field research for me is SPEND TIME with people. If you want to dance *Saidi be careful 🤯If you hear a saidi rhythm in a song it DOESN’T necessarily mean it's suitable for a *Saidi - Raqs al Assaya dancing. Why?✅️ many different songs even pop songs has saidi rhythm but are not very related to the region/folklore✅️ many saidi songs that are good to use for Raqs al Asssaya doesn’t have Saidi rhythm, and thats okCos...What matters more is the whole arrangement- Is the song traditional from Upper Egypt?
- Whats the lyrics and dialect (there are religious songs in every region that are not ok to dance to)
- What are the instruments? We want to hear an oboe - mizmar (and be careful here, there are different types of mizmar across the Egypt, that are specific to different regions and their sound is also different), tabla baladi, maybe rababa...
- What is the energy and vibe of the song?
...Song we choose to dance to is giving us exact notes how to dance to it 💚 choose wisely!*PS. Check out my reel about naming the dance correctly where I explain why using "Saidi" could be problematic
